HIT Funding Opportunities
There are a variety of funding opportunities available to offset the cost of connecting health care treatment sites with Tennessee eHealth resources. The following resources are provided to offer guidance about different opportunities. These opportunities are not mutually exclusive, but they are run by different parties. Please direct any questions to the appropriate funding resource.
Tennessee Physician Connectivity Grant 2007-2008
Designed to offset the costs of connecting health care providers to Tennessee eHealth resources:
- Hardware, software, peripherals, broadband connectivity, and HIPAA-compliant authentication
- Available in two parts:
- Funding per prescriber to offset the cost of hardware, software and
services related to eRx and HIT at the point of care- up to $3,500 per licensed M.D. or D.O., any specialty
(expanded as of June 2008)
- up to $3,500 per licensed M.D. or D.O., any specialty
- Funding per treatment site to defray the cost of broadband connectivity
on the Tennessee eHealth Exchange and utilizing HIPAA-compliant authentication- Round 1 grants: up to $6,000 per site
- Expansion grants: up to $6,000 per site in urban and semi-rural counties; $7,500 per site available in rural counties
- The State of Tennessee reserves the right to prioritize disbursement of these
grant funds by provider type or location

Federal USAC Rural Health Care Program (Ongoing)
- Designed to offer eligible health care facilities reduced rates for telecommunications services and Internet access charges related to the use of telemedicine & telehealth.
- Available to offset connectivity charges for eligible providers.
- Eligibility:
- Must be located in a county or census tract designated as Rural by the FCC
- Must be an eligible non-profit facility

State of Tennessee TNII Preferred Purchasing Rates for
Broadband Connectivity (Ongoing)
- Designed to allow any health care provider in Tennessee to purchase broadband connectivity and HIPAA-compliant authentication at State negotiated rates for the TNII contract
- Available in all 95 counties to any health care provider
- Already built into the State Physician Connectivity Grant, but may be supplemental to the USAC Rural Health Care Program
